Bella Luna
May 4, 2023
Once upon a time, about 4.5 billion years ago, the Earth was a big mass of molten lava, gurgling and bubbling, too hot and bothered to support life. In what possibly took mere hours, a planet the size of Mars hit the Earth, tilted it on its axis, and sputtered a bunch of debris into Earth’s orbit. That debris eventually collected together and formed our Moon. As for Earth, the collision brought with it some new elements such as Nitrogen and Carbon, and eventually cooled the Earth down enough to invite life onto its shores.
The planet that hit Earth was named Theia. In ancient Greek mythology, Theia was the Goddess of sight and vision. She illuminated silver, gold and gems, and gave them their brilliance. She also had three children - Helios (the Sun), Selene (the Moon), and Eos (the Dawn). But most importantly, Theia could give one the ability to see ghosts and grant them clairvoyance.
Tomorrow we have a Flower Full Moon and a Lunar Eclipse.
The Moon will be shadowed by Earth and its luminescence almost fully obscured. For a short time, we will cut off our access to the scrying mirror in the sky and sit in near total darkness. Where light is often portrayed as going out (halos, sun beams, etc.), the dark tends to go in the opposite direction: towards depth.
What do you think about when it is dark? What get magnified in your mind when there is no light to focus your attention? Tomorrow’s lunar eclipse is a good time to connect to the things that lack light in your life, give them a name, and set them free.
Perhaps one day, just like Theia, they will have enough impact to create a whole new world.
